Chinese Herbal Formulas

Chinese Herbal Medicine is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used for thousands of years. It uses combinations of plant-based ingredients and other traditional substances selected according to Chinese Medicine principles and an individual's pattern of signs and symptoms.

Rather than choosing a herb solely for one symptom, traditional Chinese herbal medicine uses formulas—carefully selected combinations of herbs designed to work together. Different formulas have traditionally been used to address patterns associated with areas such as digestion, sleep, stress, menstrual health, menopausal symptoms, energy, respiratory health and general wellbeing.

Chinese Herbal Formulas at Willow Tree

Willow Tree Acupuncture is an acupuncture practice and does not provide individually formulated or compounded Chinese herbal prescriptions.

However, where appropriate and within the practitioner's professional scope, pre-formulated Chinese Medicine products may be recommended. These are established formulas that have already been manufactured in set combinations and may come as tablet or pill form.

Any recommendation is made after considering your individual presentation, current medications, supplements and relevant health history. Chinese herbal products are not suitable for everyone and may interact with medications or be inappropriate during pregnancy or with certain medical conditions.

❋ What forms do Chinese Herb come in?

Chinese herbal formulas are available in several forms, including traditional raw-herb decoctions, concentrated granules or powders, capsules, tablets, pills, tinctures and topical preparations.

Raw herbal prescriptions and individually customised formulas require specialised training and expertise in Chinese Herbal Medicine.

❋ When a herbalist is needed.

Where your needs would be better suited to a customised herbal prescription, Willow Tree Acupuncture may recommend that you consult an appropriately qualified and registered Chinese Herbal Medicine practitioner.
